Caddo River
A FAVORITE ESCAPE in the dog days of summer, the Caddo is a short trip you can plan on a whim any given weekend. It’s not too far away; it’s easy to access; and you can do it on your own with very little planning ahead. Just pack a couple of inner tubes and an ice chest, and you’re off. Park the car, and walk a short distance to the put-in spot. Let the cool water and gentle current carry you downriver. For people who prefer to plan ahead, there are outfitters in the area that can set you up with all you need for a true Caddo River experience. Popular trips include Collier’s Creek to Arrowhead (easy, 3 miles); Arrowhead to Glenwood (easy, 7.8 miles); and Norman to Arrowhead (a fast, difficult 8 miles).
